The Belle Époque, the “Beautiful Era” was a time of increasing wealth and flourishing arts. This design period was brief due to incredibly labour-intensive techniques, which made the jewellery expensive.

Lot 2, our cover piece, is a fine example of jewellery from this romantic period. Our beautiful diamond pendant, centred with a cushion cut diamond of 2.30ct, suspended within a pierced bow, floral and foliate fitting set with rose and single cut diamonds, has all of the attributes of the jewellery produced in this short era. There are many other special selections in this first Fine Jewellery catalogue for the year. Of note, from a slightly later period, lot 9, the swagged Art Deco 3.05ct diamond earrings and lot 10, the impressive Art Deco 5.35ct solitaire diamond ring, come to mind.

As with all of our catalogues, the jewellery selection is varied and we are proud to showcase a variety of different styles including designer, modern and antique jewels.

Lot 15, a gold panther cuff bangle by Cartier and lots 61 to 75, a collection of signed Tiffany & Co. jewellery, stand out as desirable designer pieces. The auction includes extremely rare gold Sycamore and Splash necklaces by Georg Jensen, at lots 390 and 396 respectively.

It always excites me to curate our quarterly jewellery collections and it gives the department even more pleasure in finding new homes for these lovely pieces. The team are always happy to assist with your enquiries and to provide further information on any of the items in this auction. We look forward to meeting you at the viewing and trust you will find a treasure or two to buy at the auction.
