At the first Collectables Auction of 2012 on Sunday 1 April, 2012 there was strong bidding from an enthusiastic room of bidders competing with an even larger number of international buyers bidding via Artfact and on the telephone. As always there was a great deal of interest in toys, but in particular for rarer, lesser known diecast models such as Tekno (Danish), Cherryca (Japanese) and Spot-On (Northern Ireland).

8A striking red and yellow Tekno ‘Bosch’ VW van (lot 111) realised $720 (IBP) against an estimate of $200-400. An equally striking red Cherryca Citroen Convertible (lot 143) also exceeded expectations realising $780 against an estimate of $400-600. Plastic toys also performed strongly, including a very rare display box of Britains Herald Farm Animals (lot 160) which were fiercely contested by two Artfact bidders.

The set was eventually sold for $1,080 against an estimate of $240-340. Movie posters attracted spirited bidding from saleroom and telephone bidders. One of the highlights was a rare original Australian daybill for Peter Pan (lot 298) which soared to $1,140 (IBP) against an estimate of $200-400. The top price of the day was paid for a fine set of WW1 medals, including the Distinguished Service Order and Military Cross awarded to Brigade Major Herbert Gollan (lot 347).

The group was bought by an absentee bidder for $18,000 against an estimate of $15,000-20,000. The auction realised $121,000 against a low estimate of $137,000, or 88% sold by value. The Collectables department is now seeking entries for its forthcoming July auction.
